James Edwin Lapp, Jr. was from Kearney. He was a PFC in the Army Air Corps, 831st Bomber Squadron, 485th Bomber Group. He died when his transport ship, the SS Paul Hamilton, was sunk by German bombers on April 20, 1944.
Lapp is a Purple Heart recipient.
