Abstract

I created a 5-unit class for high school aged students to improve their understanding of sexual misconduct. This class is meant to improve and expand students understanding of a complex issue. The 5-unit program would be called “FACTS”; F – Facts and statistics, A – Accessibility and help, C – Consent and sex education, T – The truth using case studies, and S – Safety. Each unit will cover specific material about FACTS. Unit 1 will cover information about the definition and different types of sexual assault. Unit 2 will show students how to get help if they have been sexually assaulted. Unit 3 will discuss consent and its meaning. Unit 4 will give real life examples involving men, women, and the LGBTQ+ community who have experienced some type of sexual assault. The last unit will teach students how to keep themselves safe and recognize unsafe situations. Although this class will not eliminate sexual assault among teens, it will start to make teens aware of proper consent and different ways to handle unsafe situations. Everyone deserves to know the FACTS.

Presenter Bio

I am from the University of Nebraska at Kearney. I am majoring in Communications Multimedia studies, and I hope to go into media production with this degree. A fun fact about me is that I am from Texas, but I came to Nebraska to swim on the UNK swim team.
