Abstract

Within the last few years, the recent rise of conservatism among Latinos in the U.S. has caused major concerns among many individuals after Trump’s Presidential victory during the 2024 U.S. Presidential elections. According to several experts one of the contributing factors that led to Trump’s Presidential victory was Latino voters. It is estimated that Trump garnered almost fifty percent of Latino voters during the 2024 Presidential elections which is significantly higher compared to the 2020 U.S. Presidential elections where he only garnered thirty-six percent of Latino voters. Since then, there has been a rise in conflict and division among Latinos due to personal and political beliefs which has prompted me to further investigate why Latinos in the U.S. are increasingly aligning more with conservative politicians even though a lot of their policies they promote often targets marginalized groups including Latinos. I intend on examining whether a lot of these factors come from a personal, religious, or economic standpoint by incorporating the use of academic journals, books, news articles, social media posts, and a survey that will help determine if any of these individuals happen to develop some sort of voter’s remorse during this administration. While conducting this research I do expect a reason for why Latinos are aligning more with conservatism is due to the economy, immigration, and government control. While some of the Latinos who voted for President Trump are optimistic that he will provide effective solutions there are others who have expressed concerns in potentially seeing major repercussions under this current administration. Ultimately, it is crucial that this subject is being addressed since not only has there been a rise in conflict and division among Latinos but there is also the potential risk of witnessing Latinos being impacted in some shape or form regardless of their immigration status or party affiliation.

Presenter Bio

As a first-generation Latina college student Diana became the first in her family to obtain a bachelor’s degree in Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at the University of Central Oklahoma back in May of 2025. Right now, Diana is a current first-year graduate student at the University of Central Oklahoma where she is majoring in both school and professional counseling. One of Diana’s biggest aspirations after completing their master’s degree is to continue their path on becoming a bilingual Licensed Professional Counselor while working as a certified school counselor at a public school in Oklahoma. One fun fact about Diana is that she once got the meet the actors who play Kevin and Oscar from the famous tv hit show The Office.
